Coming back and seeing all of the 'changes' LJ has made...

With the semester coming to an end, I know that I'll be more active and so I want to ask --

What is everyone doing? I've seen a few posts of people mentioning going to DW, some people haven't said anything (that I've seen) and I'm still not exactly clear on what will be changing, if anything.

Anyone want to shed some light? I want to stay with my fandom lovlies! ♥

The same as kuwlshadow XD Backed up my LJ shortly after they announced the move to Russia, do my version of cross-posting. But for the time being (as long as they don't shut it off completely), I'll stay here on LJ.

How do you set up cross posting? I just imported my journal over to DW

Go on "Settings" and there you have a tab called "Other Sites". You need your LJ username and your password, and you have to decide if you want to cross-post by default (which means when you make an entry to DW, it automatically makes a post here on LJ), if comments should be able on both sites or not, or if you want to display the cross-post link or not.

As for the layout, I have chosen a different one for DW. But I know from some of my friends that they plan on transfering their layout here on LJ over to DW. I would recommend asking elrhiarhodan about it, she is cross-posting for years, and she has pretty much the same layout on both sites. If anyone should know how to do it, it's her. Just tell her that I sent you her way.

I'm planning on sticking around at least for now, though I'll probably try to back up to DW soon just in case. I'm not really sure what if anything this will change for any of us either... There's been a lot of conflicting information and opinions. I guess we'll just have to see.

I've been thinking of moving to DW for a while, mostly because of the annoying ads (I only have the basic account) but no one seemed to be there. Now that a few more people have moved over along with a few communities, I will be posting to DW as my main journal, and cross-posting to LJ (but my LJ is now friends-locked).

Lots of people are leaving and lots of people are staying, but either using DW as back up or crossposting from Dw to LJ.

I'm staying and it looks like most of my flist is staying for now. I think most people are still trying to feel out what is going on.

Well since LJ in now russian, it means all entries are under russian law. Every story that has m/m is NC17 even if no sex happens the meantion of homosexual relationships makes it NC17.

I'm just using DW as a fail safe in case anything were to happen. The likelihood of the fan activities being of concern to a bunch of Russian officials is very low but you never know, so having a fail safe in place can't hurt.

I'm a bred in the bone lj-er and that will never change.

I know! I've been on LJ since 2004 for fandom. I've always posted my fics here, and even though I have an Ao3 this feels like my home. I hope nothing changes, but if it does, I have my journal backed up on DW

Yes, there is. I would tell you where to go to set it up, but laptop is history right now. I'll let you know where to find it once my new one comes, but you'll probably have it figured out by then, or someone else will have told you 😂

I'm staying on LJ, but I've friends locked my entire fic list. Everything I have is M/M NC-17 except for a few crack pieces that are also M/M so under the Friends lock it goes, not sure if that is actually enough according to the TOS agreement. I don't think I'll post fic here again, just on DW and AO3, but I'll stay open.

Does locking the stories count though? I wish it was more clear... their privacy policy is different than it was in the US but what does that mean. I've already backed up my LJ to DW and I have all of my stories on AO3 anyways. It's still frustrating... LJ is my home

Yeah, I have no idea, I just thought it would be better to not make myself a target and friends lock them. Someone said they thought this meant they didn't want Russian children exposed to M/M or other 'illegal' (in Russia), behaviour. So I thought Friends locking would help.

I love LJ too. The image system on DW (storing and pasting them into stories) is clunky and the images can't be cross posted to AO3 which is what I was interested in. LJ is home, but who know what might happen. If we're discreet they might just ignore us, the TOS covering their ass if any problems pop up, but they don't want to inforce unless they have to. They like our US dollars coming in.

Who knows. Just want to be safe and have all my visuals backed up on at least my drive and my stories somewhere safe.

Sweetie, you can import pictures into AO3. If you set up a post on LJ (no matter if you really post it or not) and include the pics there, then mark the whole entry and copy+paste into AO3. I did it with several stories, and I never, ever had a problem.

I have all my images on LJ now and it's been working fine crossposting fic with images on LJ to AO3 in my fic, but what I really wanted was to get all my images on DW and be able to crosspost to AO3 with the images intact.

I just moved one fic's images to DW and then tried to update the links in my already posted story on AO3 and even though the images showed up in preview, when I went to post they wouldn't show up. I asked DW and they said they only support crossposting images to LJ and InsaneJournal. : (

I just imported my journal over there. I've used LJ for 13 years! It's weird going somewhere else... Is the journal set up the same? I like my layout here, is it able to move over too?

No, you need to start over. The layout doesn't port, but they have flexible squares and a lot of customization. Your layout is nice and airy. So many of their standard ones are so busy.

And 13 years! That is so cool. I wish I'd discovered LJ 13 years ago.
