When reading a lengthy fic...

Do you prefer it to be in chapters? or parts? or sections?

Is it easier to be in smaller bits to be able to come back to it later incase the page gets refreshed?

I am asking because I am going to be posting my slashorific fic coming up in July and I am not quite sure how to post it... The actual fic is broken up in parts by dates, and I'm not sure if it would be easier and more enjoyable to read broken up in those parts or if I should clump things together in chapters or in longer 'parts'.

God, I don't even know if I'm making sense anymore!

This fic is seriously kicking my ass.

for me I like parts not chapters on ao3 I just like parts maybe because I don't like to read it all at once

I know one of the things I hate on A03 (because I only read FF on my phone, I write on the comp) is when there's a whole fic, like 30k+ words as one chapter and if I leave the house it reconnects the internet and it starts over at the top and I have to scroll! Makes me want to pull my hair out lol

oh I don't read on ff it annoys me a little I guess I started there its hard to find my way though it ao3 is simpler for me I guess its up to you I sure how ever you do it will be awesome I will read it I am sure

I guess I prefer it broken up into chunks somehow, but it's not like a fic being in one long piece ever kept me from reading it. :)

Hmmm... this fic is in sections almost like Saving Grace is, but by dates and the sections are a bit longer. Part of me wonders if I should set it up almost like a journal, and have each date be a 'chapter' but I don't know if that would be annoying or not lol

I like chapters/parts. Like you I read on my phone primarily and a long fic in a single post is hard to read.

My suggestion - follow the tempo of the fic and don't worry about keeping the length of the parts even. The fic will read better that way.

Thank you!! That makes sense... Sometimes I stress way too much about things being the same length that I end up giving myself a headache and solve nothing. But that's a very good suggestion :)

I have to agree with theatregirl7299, go with the flow of the fic. I personally love chapters and for me it makes for easier reading.

I like chapters, and I'm not too fussed on the length of the chapters as I am the length of the fic. I do enjoy going into a story knowing that there's a solid 20k ahead of me and I can really get into it and lose myself :)

I also like knowing that if I reached a certain chapter, I won;t be catapulted back to the top of a very long page of words and have to find my own way back to the right part :)

Yes! That's one of my biggest pet peeves and I will actually bookmark a fic that's written like that to read when I know I wont or hopefully wont be interrupted. Scrolling through 50k words? Not my idea of enjoyment!
